The Freddie Mercury Tribute Concert for AIDS Awareness was a benefit event held on Easter Monday, 20 April 1992, at Wembley Stadium in London, England, attended by 72,000 people. Produced for television by Ray Burdis and directed by David Mallet, the concert was broadcast live on TV and radio to 76 countries, reaching an audience of up to one billion. This concert honored Freddie Mercury, Queen’s lead vocalist, who passed away from AIDS on 24 November 1991.
