The 2001-2002 season was the third and most recent time that Ismaily won the league. They secured the title by finishing at the top of the table with 66 points, narrowly beating out their traditional rivals, Al Ahly and Zamalek. This victory was a major event in Egyptian football, breaking the long-standing duopoly of the Cairo clubs at the time.
