The Sinai Peninsula was fully returned to Egypt on April 25, 1982, following the Egypt–Israel Peace Treaty of 1979. This marked the final withdrawal of Israeli forces from Sinai after years of occupation that began during the 1967 Six-Day War. The handover symbolized a major step toward peace between Egypt and Israel, making Egypt the first Arab country to formally recognize Israel. Since then, April 25 is celebrated every year as Sinai Liberation Day in Egypt, honoring the restoration of the territory and the sacrifices made to reclaim it.
